Wine Tasting Ideas from Santa Rosa

The Patio at Lynmar Estate

The Patio at Lynmar Estate

Need some ideas on where to go wine tasting while you’re staying in Santa Rosa, or nearby?  You are fairly close to the Dry Creek and Alexander Valley regions, but if you’re close to Santa Rosa you may want to focus on the Russian River Valley region, a source of some phenomenal Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs.

For wine tasting in this area, you will probably want a car.   However, the wineries are easy to find, well-signed, and there are plenty of good maps around

Looking for a Sauvignon Blanc that will amaze you?  Go to Merry Edwards.

Want some world-class Chardonnay?  Wander over to Sonoma-Cutrer.

In the mood for a leisurely tasting experience with a gorgeous view?  Stroll onto Lynmar Estate.

Ready to taste and buy some excellent Pinot Noirs before everyone knows about this place?   Make an appointment at Freeman Winery.

Or, if you want some less common white wines you can try the Pinot Blanc at Dutton-Goldfield or the Chardonnay/Albarino blend at Marimar Estate.

You can read more about the Russian River Valley here.  You can also see our recommendations for local food gems, including pizza (Rosso), ice cream (Screaming Mimi’s), and pie (Mom’s Apple Pie).  Or, if you want to start the day right, you can get up early, drive out to the Wild Flour Bread bakery in Freestone, devour a sticky bun, and then walk next door for some great Chardonnay and Pinot Noir at Freestone Winery.

Be sure to bring a friend – you may need help with that sticky bun.
