Council Calling: The Mount Veeder Appellation Wine Tasting

Mount Veeder Appellation LogoThe 13th Annual Mount Veeder Appellation Wine Tasting will be here next weekend, on September 22.  Don’t miss this opportunity to taste small production gems from over 20 Mount Veeder wineries, many of which are not normally open to the public.

On the southwestern side of Napa Valley, Mount Veeder is an appellation where richly intense, age-worthy wines have been produced since the 1860’s.  These wines reflect the independent spirit of its mountain growers and vintners, home of rugged conditions that demand handcraftsmanship at the highest level.   Mount Veeder has the longest growing season and the lowest yields in Napa Valley, and the vast majority of vineyard work is done by hand due to the rugged conditions and sharp slopes.

On Saturday, September 22, the Mount Veeder Appellation Council presents their annual Appellation Wine Tasting at The Hess Collection at 4411 Redwood Road in Napa.  Admission is $60 per person, and the event runs from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.  The festivities will include live music, small bites, raffle prizes, a Riedel wine glass to take home, and amazing wines from over 20 wineries.  For more details, and to purchase tickets, go here.

Participants in the Mount Veeder Appellation Wine Tasting include wineries both big and small, with experience all the way up to 40 years in the business.  Some of the featured wineries who will be pouring on September 22 are Fontanella Family Winery, Godspeed, The Hess Collection, Jake-Ryan Cellars, Lagier Meredith Vineyard, Lampyridae Vineyards, Lokoya, Mount Veeder Winery, O’Shaughnessey Estate Winery, Paratus, Robert Craig Winery, Rubissow Wines, Veedercrest Wines,  Vinoce, Yates Family Vineyard, and Y Rousseau.  For the complete list of participating wineries, please go here.

The Mount Veeder Appellation Council is made up of wineries and growers in the Mount Veeder area.  The appellation covers about 16,000 square miles, with about 1,000 acres under vine, and the primary varietals grown here are Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malbec, Merlot, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc.  To learn more about the Appellation or the Council please go here.
