On Highway 128, north of Calistoga and west of Healdsburg, is where you will find Alexander Valley.  This region does not get as much traffic as some other areas in Sonoma, so the experience here feels more relaxed.

Favorite Tasting Rooms in Alexander Valley

deLorimier Winery – Small lot wines being served in a winery that also celebrates art, where they hold quarterly artist receptions where club members can meet the artists and enjoy appetizers and music.  Cabernet Sauvignons are the focus here.  2001 Highway 128, Geyserville  (800) 546-7718

Francis Ford Coppola Winery – The wines are nice here, but even if you aren’t in the mood for tasting you will regret it if you don’t at least come and see this place.  There’s a public pool with a bar and rentable cabanas, an Italian restaurant (Rustic), and a collection of Francis Ford Coppola’s movie memorabilia including the car from Tucker, costumes from Dracula, and his Academy Awards.  300 Via Archimedes, Geyserville  (877) 590-3329

Hawkes Wine - Good Cabernet Sauvignons and a stunning Home Chardonnay can be found at this small family winery that looks like a farmhouse.  They also have a tasting room in downtown Sonoma, just northwest of the Plaza.   6734 Highway 128, Healdsburg (707) 433-4295 and 383 West First Street, Sonoma (707) 938-7620

Medlock Ames - Friendly “green” winery focused on environmental sustainability.  Organically farmed vineyards are converted into lovely wines, particularly their Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé, and Merlot.  3487 Alexander Valley Road, Healdsburg  (707) 431-1904

Robert Young Estate Winery – Five generations of farming led to the start of Robert Young Vineyards in 1963.  The winery now leverages the 500 acre Robert Young Estate into premium wines such as Chardonnay and the Scion Cabernet Sauvignon.  4960 Red Winery Road, Geyserville  (707) 431-4811

Silver Oak Cellars – Truly wonderful Cabernet Sauvignons can be found at this location, the Alexander Valley counterpart to Silver Oak’s Napa Valley tasting room in Oakville.  24625 Chianti Road, Geyserville (707) 942-7082 and 915 Oakville Crossroad, Oakville (707) 942-7022

Stonestreet – Beautiful tasting room on attractive grounds, where you can sit and enjoy the mountain views.  Sample the Chardonnays and Cabernet Sauvignons here, especially the Monument Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon.  7111 Highway 128, Healdsburg (800) 355-8008

Stuhmuller Vineyards – Near the juncture of Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley, and Chalk Hill, this smaller winery focuses on producing small-lot, tasty wines (and charges no tasting fee).  The Estate Chardonnay, Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zinfandel were our favorites.  4951 West Soda Rock Lane, Healdsburg  (707) 431-7745

Trione Vineyards and Winery - After growing premium grapes for over three decades, the Trione family is now producing wines under their own label.  Be sure to try the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Block 21 Cabernet Sauvignon.  19550 Geyserville Avenue, Geyserville (707) 814-8100
