What do you expect when you hear “Happy Hour in Napa?”  Well, what you will find is a smorgasbord of food choices throughout the city including Truffle Popcorn, Seafood Tostadas, Carnitas Tacos, Kobe Burgers, Oysters, Butter Lettuce Salads, Pizzas and Flatbreads, Pastrami Sliders, Empanadas, Turkish Meatballs and more at very affordable prices.  There are also plenty of discounts on quality beer, wine, and cocktails at the same time.

The City of Napa has several destinations for Happy Hour specials although sometimes if feels like that’s a big secret.  Keep reading, and we’ll tell you about some of our favorite choices for great food and drinks at reduced prices within the city limits and when these specials are available.  Better yet, many of these establishments offer Happy Hour discounts on the weekends as well.  Just make sure to aim for the bar area, as Happy Hour special prices usually do not extend to the main dining rooms at restaurants.

Favorites for Happy Hour in Napa

Brix Restaurant (7377 St. Helena Highway/Highway 29, 707-944-2749) – Monday through Friday, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., the entire bar menu is ½ off (both food and drinks).  Examples of some of the dishes here and their discounted prices are Oysters ($1.50), Prosciutto and Clam Croquettes ($4), Butter Lettuce Salad ($5), Cast Iron Roasted Mussels ($7.50), Wild Mushroom Flatbread ($7) and a Cheeseburger ($7.50).


Bounty Hunter Wine Bar (975 First Street, 707-226-3976) – Monday through Friday, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Happy Hour specials include 2-for-1 Bounty Hunter Brand Wines by the glass, 20% off bottles of Bounty Hunter Brand Wines, 2-for-1 draft beers, $5 for a Rib & ’Slaw Appetizer, and a $10 BBQ Sampler Plate.  On Wednesdays, you can also take advantage of the all-day-special of a ½ lb. Kobe Cheeseburger with a Side for only $13.

Carpe Diem Wine Bar (1001 Second Street, 707-224-0800) – Monday through Saturday, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., enjoy draft beers for $3.50, specialty drinks for $5, a glass of the wines of the week (one red, one white) for $6, and noshing options such as Truffle Popcorn, Harissa Fries, or Crispy Olives for $3.50, Chef’s Taco for $3, Artichoke and Leek Bruschetta for $6, or an “Italian Stallion” Flatbread for $7.

Fish Story (790 Main Street, 707-251-5600) – Monday through Thursday, from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Friday through Sunday, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., you can find plenty of specials here including draught beer for $2.50, wine on tap for $5, and signature and well cocktails for $5.  Pair these with your choice of $5 food options including New England Clam Chowder, Peel and Eat Sweet Main Shrimp, BBQ Oysters, Tombo Tuna Ceviche, and Pastrami Sliders.  Now that the weather is nicer, they are also celebrating Happy Hour on Fridays and Saturdays on the patio in front of the restaurant where they also offer Rock Cod Soft Tacos.

Frida’s Mexican Grill (1533 Trancas Street, 707-252-3575) – Every Day, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., start here with free chips and salsa to go with $3 House Margaritas, House Wine, and Beers (both draft and bottled).  Then, review the menu and choose between well-made affordable appetizers such as Chicken Tinga Tostadas, Nachos, or Soft Tacos (Carne Asada, al Pastor, Carnitas, or Chorizo) for $3 per plate.  Or, if you prefer, you can order a Caesar Salad for $4 or add Grilled Chicken to the salad for another $2.

Fumé Bistro & Bar (4050 Byway East, 707-257-1999) – Monday through Friday, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., drink specials are $3.50 for beers and well cocktails.  Tuesday through Friday, food specials include Deep Fried Four Cheese Ravioli, Pizza Margherita, Polenta Fries, or House Made Onion Rings with a Chipotle BBQ Sauce for $4.50 each.  On Monday, the food offering is Fume’s famous “5 Buck Chuck” burger starting at $5.55 all night long, with additional charges for added items.

Grace’s Table (1400 Second Street, 707-226-6200) – Every Day, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., the bar menu food items are offered at a reduced price for Happy Hour.  Examples of bar menu options and their discounted prices are Macaroni and Cheese or Chili D’Espellette Fries for $3, Short Rib Taco or Empanada for $4, and a Gravlax Plate for $6.  Grace’s has an extensive beer selection (including offerings from Lagunitas, Bear Republic, Napa Smith, Sonoma Smith and Firestone) and during Happy Hour their draft beers are only $4 and selected glasses of wine are $5.

Norman Rose Tavern (1401 First Street, 707-258-1516) – Monday through Friday, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., are Norman Rose’s “Suds n Grub” specials.  This includes $4 draft beers, $6 wine specials by the glass, and Hot Wings for $6 per pound.

Ristorante Allegria (1026 First Street, 707-254-8006) – Monday through Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Friday through Sunday, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., mixed Well Drinks and Beer are only $3.50 and the Happy Hour food specials include Bruschetta al Pomodoro, Calamari Fritti, and Spaghetti alla Bolognese for $5 each, an Arugula Salad with Dungeness Crab Cake for $6, or a Kobe Burger with Fries for $8.

Tarla Mediterranean Grill (1480 First Street, 707-255-5599) – Every Day, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., selected cocktails and wines by the glass are $5, selected bottles of wine are $16, and all beers on tap are only $3.  There is an extensive list of mezes to select from for only $5, including Turkish Meatballs, Warm Hummus with Pita, Greek Saganaki, Oven Roasted Beet Salad, Barley Pomegranate Salad, and Greek Fries with Spicy Mayo.

These are some of our favorite locations right now for Happy Hour in Napa.  Of course, there are several Happy Hour venues farther north in Napa Valley (Farmstead, La Condesa, etc.).  We’ll write another article with recommendation ins for Happy Hours Upvalley soon.

  1. Thanks for the information, I just happened to come across your website and I was intrigued. I have lived in Napa since 1980 but as a single mom on a budget, have found that most places are out of my reach, thanks for letting me know the specials!

  2. 12/2/13. Went to Brix for Happy Hour….. No more! Apparently we r not the only ones to have arrived to find out no longer available, and Hostess said she doesn’t know why they have not changed the info….

  3. Uva has a great happy hour. I’ve been there on Tuesdays and they do a Waygu burger with fries and a pint of beer for $10 (can’t beat that) from 4:00-9:00 I believe.

    I have also been there Fridays and their apps are $5 (mussels, calamari, fried olives, prosciutto and cheese, mini pepperoni pizza) the well bar is $4, house wine 5, and draft beer is $3
