Clinic Ole: Past, Present and Future

Clinic Ole in Napa

Clinic Ole Health Center in Napa

Community Health Clinic Ole (Clinic Ole) was founded in 1972 to provide health care for low-income, uninsured individuals in Napa County.  Today, Clinic Ole is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and the only nonprofit community clinic in the County.  They provide medical care (including behavioral health services) to about 25,000 patients annually and their prenatal services support the healthy development of approximately half of Napa County’s newborns each year.   In addition to operating clinics in Napa, St. Helena, and Calistoga, Clinic Ole also provides weekly services at local homeless shelters and oversees a clinic for Napa Valley College students.

Since it began, the family of Clinic Ole providers has expanded to include:

·         Sister Ann Dental Clinic –  bringing dental services to people of all ages through offices at both ends of Napa Valley.

·         Healthy Moms and Babies – a Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program offering educational services, dietary counseling, gestational diabetes care, and breastfeeding support.

·         Napa Obstetrics and Gynecology Medical Group – women’s health care providers offering well woman exams, family planning, maternity care, and menopause counseling.

Sister Ann Dental ClinicLooming changes in healthcare are going to significantly impact Clinic Ole: the current phase-down of California’s Healthy Families program, an upcoming expansion of the State’s Medi-Cal program, the evolution of the Path2Health County Medical Services Program, and the January 2014 launching of the federal Exchange program (locally called Covered California).

Healthy Moms and BabiesClinic Ole has been preparing for these changes by continuously improving the quality of care provided and ensuring a volume of staff and resources to meet patients’ needs. This year, they added five additional medical providers to staff: two Family Physicians, two Pediatricians and one pediatric Nurse Practitioner. In preparation for the introduction of Covered California on January 1, Clinic Ole will be adding a Patient Services Department to help individuals and families determine which plans are available to them and then assisting them with the enrollment process.
