Distract yourself from the heat and imagine yourself at the 2022 Taste of Mount Veeder event on Sunday, September 18th.  This walk-around wine tasting event showcases 30 wineries, including several that aren’t normally open to the public, and doesn’t even start until 4 pm.  Attendees can also bid on Silent Auction items between sips of wines and nibbles of food pairings.  There are still tickets available, and this event has moved to a new location this year due to increasing popularity.  For 2022, festivities will be held between 4 and 7 pm on the garden lawn at Domaine Chandon in Yountville.

As you can probably tell, we encourage people to attend this event because we always find wines we love and recommend at each year’s tasting.   Our favorite Mount Veeder Chardonnays have included wines from Fontanella Family Winery, Godspeed Vineyards, Mayacamas Vineyards and Mi Sueño Winery.  We’ve also consistently enjoyed Cabernet Sauvignons from Anthem Winery & Vineyards, Brandlin Estate, Hess Persson Estates, Pilcrow, Random Ridge, Robert Craig Winery and Vinoce.  We’re also fans of the “Trinity Blanc” white wine blend from Progeny, “Cheval” Cabernet Franc from Yates Family Vineyard, and the Mondeuse, Malbec, and Tribidrag wines from Lagier Meredith.

You should be able to find all of those wineries (and hopefully those wines) at the 2022 Taste of Mount Veeder event.  You’ll also be able to taste Mount Veeder wines from Au Revoir, Celani Family Vineyards, VGS Chateau Potelle, Cresta Velia, Domaine Chandon, Darioush, Gamble Family Vineyards, Majuscule Wine, Mithra, Mt. Brave, Newton Vineyard, O’Shaughnessy Estate Winery, Pott Wine, Sky Vineyards, and Wing Canyon Vineyard.

Taste of Mount Veeder guests will be able to pair these amazing wines with a selection of Local Cheeses and Crackers as well as small bites from Domaine Chandon’s Executive Chef Juan Cabrera.  From Chandon’s Wood Pizza Oven you’ll enjoy Margherita, Salsiccia, and Funghi Pizzas, and sweet options will include a Lemon Tart and an assortment of Macarons.  General Admission Tickets will be $200 per person at the door (if still available) but you can still purchase Advance Tickets for $175 each online. On the southwestern side of Napa Valley, Mount Veeder is an appellation where richly intense, age-worthy wines have been produced since the 1860’s. The white wines made from grapes grown here display luscious stone fruit, hints of citrus, and herbal aromas and flavors.  Mount Veeder red wines typically exhibit dark fruit flavors of blackberry or black cherry, sweet herbal notes and forest flora aromatics

Mount Veeder Appellation LogoThe 2022 Taste of Mount Veeder is presented by the Mount Veeder Appellation Council and this is their 22nd annual event. The appellation covers about 16,000 square miles within the Mayacamas mountain range that separates Napa and Sonoma Counties.  Mount Veeder is one of the coolest mountain appellations as the SF Bay breezes cool the region, resulting in a Bordeaux-like climate.  Yields on the mountain vineyards are exceptionally low (about half the Napa Valley average) which helps produce richly intense and age-worthy wines in this appellation.

We hope you can attend the Taste of Mount Veeder event and learn more about the current wine portfolios from these wineries.  If you are looking for more of our personal recommendations for nearby wineries and restaurants, please go here.  Depending on your interest, you can also follow the drop-down menus on the navigation bar above to see our Favorites By Wine Region for other areas in the Napa Valley (or Sonoma, Mendocino, Santa Barbara, etc.).
