Located halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo County is the heart of California’s Central Coast. Aside from wineries, travelers come here for a variety of reasons ranging from the beach scene at Pismo Beach to the luxurious grounds of Hearst Castle to the college life of California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo.
There are two main areas for wine tasting here, San Luis Obispo/Edna Valley and Paso Robles. The San Luis Obispo/Edna Valley wine country has about 25 wineries and runs from the Santa Lucia Mountain Range down to the Pacific Ocean in cities such as Arroyo Grande, Pismo Beach, and San Luis Obispo. In northern SLO County, the Paso Robles wine region has over 200 wineries primarily found in Paso Robles, Templeton, and Atascadero.
