Yorkville Highlands

The Yorkville Highlands appellation lies between Alexander Valley and Anderson Valley and covers about 40,000 acres.  The rocky soils here have a high gravel content resulting in a growing region with superior drainage.  There are 22 vineyards here, all of them family-run.

Favorite Tasting Rooms in Yorkville Highlands

Artevino at Maple Creek Winery – Founded in 2001, Maple Creek Winery produces Artevino wines, a culmination of the owners’ passions for Art and Wine.  The winery and vineyards are part of the 180 acre Maple Creek Ranch and the tasting room is up a long road from the highway.  Friendly staff here, and our favorite wines are their Chardonnay, Zinfandel, and Late Harvest Zinfandel.  This is also one of the few wineries in California making wine from Symphony, a white wine varietal created at UC Davis in 1948 by crossing Muscat of Alexandria and Grenache Gris.  20799 Highway 128, Yorkville  707-895-3011

Meyer Family Cellars – This winery was established in 1987 by Justin Meyer, one of the co-founders of Silver Oak Cellars.  The delicious Meyer Family Port is made primarily from old-vine Zinfandel and spends an average of five years in American oak barrels before spending another three years in the bottle.  In addition to the Port, they also make very good High Ground Reserve Syrah, Spitfire Cabernet Sauvignon, Bonny’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zinfandel.  19750 Highway 128, Yorkville  707-895-2341

Yorkville Cellars – The vineyards here have been certified organic since 1986 and while they make several different wines here, there are less than 1000 cases of each wine hand-crafted each year.  The two estate vineyards here are Randle Hill (Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon) and Rennie (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc).  It’s hard to miss this winery – it’s right on Highway 128 and they have several varietal signs in the vineyards as you pass by.  Our favorite wines here are the Sauvignon Blanc, Carmeniere, Malbec, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.  25701 Highway 128, Yorkville  707-894-9177
